Tinubu Presidential Metering Initiative

Tinubu Presidential Metering Initiative executed under the Presidential Metering Initiative (PMI) in collaboration with the federal ministry of youth development, is established to tackle skills gaps in meter installation while creating employment opportunities for youths.

Tinubu Presidential Metering Initiative is part of the efforts of the administration to enhance the performance of the electricity sector through expanded metering. This initiative involves a wider deployment of smart meters to help reduce estimated billing, improve transparency in electricity charges, strengthen revenue collection and improve service delivery. Tinubu Presidential Metering Initiative is a federation initiative that connects opportunity with impact, creating jobs for Nigerian youths while strengthening electricity access in every state

The first phase of Tinubu Presidential Metering Initiative will start in Abuja in July 2026, with subsequent rollout across the 6 geopolitical zones.

Benefits of Tinubu Presidential Metering Initiative 

The following are the benefits of Tinubu Presidential Metering Initiative: 

1. Participants of Tinubu Presidential Metering Initiative will go through intensive technical training delivered by the National Power Training Institute of Nigeria (NAPTIN), while certification and compliance standards will be overseen by the Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA)

2. Participants of Tinubu Presidential Metering Initiative will be equipped with technical skills, recognised certification and pathways to employment and entrepreneurship in the power sector

3. Tinubu Presidential Metering Initiative would create jobs while improving electricity access nationwide

4. Tinubu Presidential Metering Initiative would also support efforts to enhance customer confidence in the electricity market

Requirements for Tinubu Presidential Metering Initiative 

Candidates applying for Tinubu Presidential Metering Initiative must:

1. Be a Nigerian between the ages of 18 and 35 years 

2. Have a science background and must have completed a minimum of SSCE or Equivalent

3. Make sure NIN is correct, an incorrect NIN will lead to disqualification

4. Be physically and mentally fit for the envisaged task requirement

5. Be willing to learn and work in the power sector

6. Have no prior experience as training will be provided

Tinubu Presidential Metering Initiative is open to NYSC members and students of Technical and Vocational institutions

How To Apply for Tinubu Presidential Metering Initiative

Applications for the first cohort of Tinubu Presidential Metering Initiative will start on July 4 and remain open for 2 weeks, interested applicants should visit https://pmi.naptin.gov.ng/ create an account, complete the application form, upload required documents and await shortlisting notification.

Note: Only one application is permitted; multiple applications will result in disqualification.
