N-Power Transition: Minister Recieves Only 2000 Names Accross The Federation

According to news on Radio Lagos The Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management & Social Development said they received just 2000 names of N-Power volunteers that are willing to be transitioned to the other phase of the N-Power programme.

N-Power: Don't Put 500, 000 Beneficiaries On Hold

A social commentator, Comrade Mustapha Kabir Soron Dinki has objected to the Nigerian government's decision to exit 500, 000 N-Power beneficiaries, AllNews reports.

Dinki, who was an N-Power beneficiary, via his known Twitter handle on Tuesday argued that "the same people you sidelined are the ones to occupy the new ones in the labour market".

Recall that Batch A beneficiaries exited the programme on June 30 after four years in the famed scheme, while their Batch B counterparts officially made their exit on July 31st - after two years.

Meanwhile, these Nigerian youths were exited from the N-Power scheme by the FG without being paid their stipends for the month of July. Plus, they are currently in the dark regarding their exit/transition package.

The Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development of Nigeria is currently in the process of recruiting Batch C.

N-Power initiative

The N-Power was introduced in 2016 as part of President Muhammadu Buhari’s National Social Investment Programme (NSIP), aimed at curbing the incessant increase of unemployment and poverty in the country.

Apart from the monthly stipends (N30, 000), some Batch A beneficiaries were given tablet computers to aid further learning. N-Power had five components, which are N-Teach, N-Tax, N-Health, N-Agro, and N-Build.

Out of the SIP components, the N-Teach subcomponent is the most popular, due to a large number of youth deployed to teach in public schools.

FG Spent N13.3b In 2 Years On N-Power Scheme In Kwara ― N-SIP

National Social Investment Programme (NSIP) has disbursed a total sum of N13.3 billion to 15, 246 beneficiaries of the national youth empowerment programme called N-Power in Kwara state.

Speaking with journalists in Ilorin on Wednesday, the state focal person of the programme, Hajia Bashirah Abdulrazaq, said that batch A beneficiaries of the programme were engaged for a period of 42 months and were paid a total sum of N7.4 billion.

The NSIP focal person, who said that batch B beneficiaries spent about 24 months, added that they were paid a total sum of N5.7 billion.

“Non-graduates received the sum of N10,000 every month and were engaged for a period of 24 months with a total sum of over N24 million spent”, she added.

She also said that the Kwara state government has replicated the youth empowerment programme in the state, codenamed K-Power, in order not to throw beneficiaries into the labour market after exiting N-Power.

Hajia Abdulrazaq, who said that about 10,000 people benefitted from “trader moni” programme in the state with over N1.3 billion disbursed to them, lamented that the people were not willing to repay the loan.

“Poor masses are not ready to repay the loan after collection because of the attitude of Nigerian to anything from the government thinking it is national cake. Also, those that disbursed the money do not have records of beneficiaries like phone numbers and addresses. Thus, making it difficult to track them for repayment.

“The programme is designed to provide soft loans to boost small scale businesses in the markets which Vice President Yemi Osinbajo flagged off sometime last year to support women with N10,000 as soft loans to be paid back and then enjoy the next stage of N50,000.

“Unfortunately, many beneficiaries didn’t pay back or the channel for payment was not identified, therefore, beneficiaries could not fulfil their pledges. Though, the component is going through restructuring to seeing it achieves its objectives”, she said.

Hajia Abdulrazaq also said that the state government has replicated NSIP scheme in the state, tagged Kwara state Social investment programme, (KWASSIP), adding that, “in view of that, governor Abdulrazaq keyed into the programme by establishing the following, owo arugbo- stipend for the aged, owo isowo- soft loans to petty traders, ounje ofe -homegrown free feeding programme for public primary school pupils and K-Power for the unskilled youth”, she said.

Advice To The Incoming N-Power Batch C Volunteers

You all know that N-Power is a skill empowerment scheme and the recently conducted N-Power Batch C recruitment have seen some adjustments. Unlike the previous batches which N-Power beneficiaries are expected to spend two years to gain job experience and employability skills, the new set of N-Power volunteers to be recruited will have only 1year to be empowered.

The prospective Batch C N-Power beneficiaries should have it in mind that the N-Power programme has an expiring date and as such, it is very important that future N-Power Batch C volunteers make the most out of the N-Power programme before they are exited to avoid what happened to N-Power batches A and B.

The advice to the incoming batch C N-Power Volunteers is that they should not subject themselves to only the responsibility at the place of their primary assignment. They should task themselves with other activities that will help build the other aspect of their lives and livelihoods.

The most amazing thing is that N-Power provides you with the necessary tools like an electronic device, free internet connectivity and ₦30000 stipend which is an added advantage to hone your skills like digital and entrepreneural skills, and put back that skills into your work as NAgro, NTeach and NHealth volunteers. It will actually be a waste of time if you end up not learning other skills that will boost your CV or direct you towards the entrepreneurial part after the programme.

As you all know, the N-Power programme has different components which I believed the non-graduate component is more or less the one that can bring out entrepreneurs. The graduate component will only equip you with work experience which at the end will require you to work for others, that is why it is important that while in the N-Power programme you should endeavour to devote some of your time to acquire entrepreneurial skills so that you can get something to fall back after the scheme.

However, the management of the N-Power programme have said that they have restructured the scheme for better results, but it is advisable that you still do not put all your hope on someone elses promises.

That is why this post was written to assist the new emerging N-Power volunteers to learn from the experience of their Senior colleagues the 2016 and 2017 N-Power volunteers who are recently exited from the N-Power Scheme and still do not know where they belong in terms of transition path.
