According to the Minister, individuals who failed to apply for the federal government grant can as well apply for the ongoing federal government loan, the federal government loan can be completed if the applicant has a SMEDAN certificate or a CAC certificate, as these documents are necessary to completing the federal government loan, the loan amount is ₦1,000,000 depending on your choice and type of business. Application for the federal government loan closes after all disbursement of the federal government grant must have been concluded, the federal government loan will be disbursed soon.

Make Judicious Use Of Student Loan - Sunday Asefon

Honorable Sunday Asefon, the Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Students Engagements, has advised the entire Nigerian Students to make judicious use of the student loan as the student loan application was officially launched on Friday by the Nigerian Education Loan Fund Board (NELFUND) headed by Dr Akintunde Sawyerr.

Honorable Sunday Asefon said education is the bedrock of the development of any nation, saying the dedication of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was to ensure that no student irrespective of his or her poor background be denied quality education which is the passport to a greater future of an individual and the advancement of the country.

Honorable Sunday Asefon applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for keeping to one of his campaign promises by approving and making available the student loan which Honorable Sunday Asefon added was of extreme importance to relieve vulnerable students’ burdens of their school fees payment and having easy access to student loan funding.

Honorable Sunday Asefon said: “It is on this note that I admonish Nigerian Students to make judicious use of the opening of the Students Loan Scheme App that is now officially launched today and ready for use by registering and submitting their applications.

Student Loan: Certificate Forgers Not Eligible For Student Loan Scheme

According to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu convicted certificate forgers, drug offenders, and cultists are not eligible for the student loan.

The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), the administrator of the student loan, revealed this in its “frequently asked” questions, which were posted on its official X handle on Friday.

The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) said student loan applications by citizens “convicted of fraud and forgery, drug offences, cultism, felony, or any offences involving dishonesty” would be declined.

Others whose student loan application would be declined include anyone “proven to have defaulted in respect of any previous loan granted” by any licensed financial institution and anyone “found guilty of submitting fake/fraudulent documents and dismissed for exam malpractices by any school authority.”

On Friday, The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) launched the student loan application portal for the first phase of the student loan scheme, which is open to students from federal institutions across the country.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has a series of murky episodes characterised by academic forgery, identity theft, and narcotics trafficking.

These episodes featured before, during, and after the 2023 presidential election, resulting in litigation from the election petitions tribunal up to the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

Student Loan Portal Issues As Students Struggle To Register On Student Loan Portal

 

A surge of frustration has gripped some tertiary institution students as they struggled to navigate and register on the newly launched student loan portal.

Information gathered is that the student loan portal is now open for applications from students across 126 federal institutions, covering Federal universities, Federal Polytechnics and Federal Colleges of Education.

To apply for the student loan, students need to visit the official student loan portal, nelf.gov.ng, fill out the necessary forms, and submit required documentation.

However, the mounting issues hindering smooth student loan applications were prompting calls for immediate improvements to the portal to ensure that students can secure the financial support they needed for their education.

It would be recalled that the first phase of the student loan scheme has gone live in early hours of Friday, with the first prospective beneficiaries being students from federal institutions across the country.

Reports have it that the student loan portal is now active, but some students have complained about their inability to log onto the student loan portal and proceed with their student loan application process.

In an interview with our correspondent, a student of Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi, who identified hisself as Cletus said his JAMB registration number was “not recognised” while attempting to register.

“It’s not working. I got to where I clicked ‘create’. The image or whatever is not showing. So it’s preventing me. Infact they really need to work on the website,” Cletus added.

Meanwhile, some Direct Entry (DE) and National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) students have complained that they cannot proceed with the student loan application as the student loan portal required them to provide their JAMB registration numbers.

A student of NOUN, Ms.Gloria, said she opened the student loan portal but did not know what to do next when she was asked to provide JAMB registration number.

“National Open University don’t use JAMB, so I urge NELFUND to use our admission numbers instead of our JAMB numbers,” Ms.Gloria, pleaded.

List Of 126 Federal Institutions Approved For Student Loan

NELFUND yesterday kicked off applications for interest-free student loan for students in federal government tertiary institutions.

A total of 126 federal postsecondary school students are included in the first batch of the student loan.

The first batch of the student loan includes 126 federal institutions, beginning in earnest.

Recall that the student loan website, www.nelf.gov.ng, went live at 12 midnight on Friday, May 24th. Student loan applicants are expected to complete the student loan application within 15 to 30 minutes.

To apply for the student loan, students must provide their admission letter, national identification number, and bank.

This first phase of the student loan is expected to benefit 1.2 million students from federal government-owned universities, polytechnics, colleges of education, and technical colleges; beneficiaries from state-owned tertiary institutions will be announced later. This information comes from the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND).

2) Flagged off Market-Moni 2.0, which is the expanded Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme(GEEP), with the initial phase of 500,000 recipients getting ₦50,000 interest-free loans each, across the country in 109 markets of the 109 Senatorial zones in Nigeria. Market Sensitization and engagement of market women in rural areas.

3) Unveiled and handed over, 40 housing units for 200 people in Zamfara, ie 40 internally displaced families

17) Npower Payment to Npower Beneficiaries; Three Hundred and Sixty Nigerian Youths benefited from the debt clearance owed by the past administration. Each of them received ₦30,000 in December 2023.

How To Fix Some Issues On The Student Loan Portal

The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has addressed recent complaints from some students who are encountering some issues when attempting to apply on the student loan portal.

The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has addressed these issues on the student loan portal collectively as follows:

A) If a student’s school is not on the list of institutions, NELFUND has advised that the ICT department of the respective school, be contacted to reach out to NELFUND.

B) If a student’s JAMB number is not verifying, the student is instructed to contact his/her school to ensure their admission was supported by JAMB.

C) For students from state-owned institutions trying to apply for the student loan, NELFUND has explained that the rollout phase started only with federal institutions and therefore these students are advised to hold on for now.

D) If students cannot see any institution in the dropdown list, NELFUND suggests checking the internet connection and refreshing the browser.

E) If students are unable to verify their account via email, they are instructed to ensure that they entered the correct email address.

F) If a student’s matriculation number could not be verified on the portal, NELFUND has advised contacting the ICT department of his/her school to upload their records to the Students Verification System (SVS).
