While assuring all Npower batch c beneficiaries of complete transparency and accountability, Egbuwalo stated that in line with the new agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Npower programme will be continued as Renewed Hope Job Creation Programme (RHJCP) under the supervision of the Honourable Minister, Dr Betta Edu, which will be expanded to target 5 million beneficiaries in 5 years where 1 million youths will be absorbed each year under the graduate and non-graduate stream.
Responding, Sani Garba, an Npower batch c beneficiary from Yobe State who was present at the meeting noted that their concerns was mainly regarding the delayed 9 months stipends, adding that a national protest had initially been planned by different clusters of Npower batch c beneficiaries due to inadequate information.
“Sir, as you have clearly explained the current situation of payment to us with outmost transparency, myself and other cluster of Npower beneficiaries represented here are assuring you that we have clearly understood your position and taken your assurances, there is no need for any protest” Garba mentioned.
While encouraging all Npower batch c beneficiaries to keep calm as they patiently expect their payments, the cluster of Npower batch c beneficiaries expressed their joy over the assurances given to them for a better implementation of the Npower programme which will ensure that no Npower batch c beneficiary is left behind in the renewed hope agenda of the Federal Government.

According to Npower, the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation has recovered funds held by the Npower consultant for several months.
According to Npower, the Manager of Npower, Mr Akindele, made this known following a meeting held with representatives of Npower batch c.
“The good news is that the funds have been recovered yesterday and you will be getting your money soon. Npower payment for Npower Batch C beneficiaries who have been owed for eight months will begin soon,” he said.
According to Npower, the Npower Manager revealed that the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr Betta Edu, has been working round the clock to stop irregularities within Npower and other social investment programmes.
“These irregularities have made the common man to lose faith in the ability of Government to provide social safety cover for its population but Dr Betta Edu is engaging all necessary steps to resolve these issues and deliver the Renewed Hope Mandate of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to Nigerians.
“Many irregularities which hitherto had sabotaged the smooth implementation of Npower are being addressed. It would be recalled that on assumption of duty, it was noted that many Npower batch c beneficiaries did not receive payment for their monthly allowances while monies were been held up by the consultant managing the enrollment and Npower payment system whose contract had long expired. The good news is that the money has been recovered and it would allow for Npower payment of Npower batch c beneficiaries,” Akindele added.

Giving a further glimpse into what a restructured Npower would look like, the National Programme Manager disclosed that it will accommodate some new programmes, in Education, Health, Works, Agriculture, Technology, Fashion, Entertainment and other relevant areas of skill acquisition and employability.
“To earn the confidence of Nigerians in the expanded programme, transparency and accountability will be the benchmark. It shall no longer be business as usual as we make concerted efforts to put the nation on the right footing, ensuring that no one directly or indirectly unleashes suffering on Nigerians”, he said.
Dr Egbuwalo, explained that suspension of Npower became imperative following the discovery of sharp practices and to also give room for a detailed investigation into its operations in the last twelve months.
His words: “There is a need to audit the number of people in the programme, those who have exited the programme, those who are being owed, whether they reported to work or not and how funds have been utilised over this period.
“Recently, we discovered instances of Npower batch c beneficiaries whose participation has elapsed since 2022 but have remained on Npower and continue to expect Npower payments from the government. In addition, some Npower batch c beneficiaries must honour their obligation to the Npower programme.
“They do not report to their places of primary assignments as required but still receive monthly Npower payments.
“These instances have made the need for a thorough audit imperative, as we also look into claims of Npower batch c beneficiaries yet to receive Npower payment for up to eight to nine months to ascertain the veracity of their claims”
Dr Egbuwalo, assured all Npower batch c beneficiaries with genuine claims that the Federal Government will not owe any Npower batch c beneficiary as it will resolve all cases and honour all valid outstanding obligations once the Npower validation exercise is completed

In addition, some Npower batch c beneficiaries must honour their obligation to the Npower programme: They do not report to their places of primary assignments as required but still receive monthly Npower payments. Some Npower batch c beneficiaries have other jobs and have left this bracket but are still benefiting from the Npower payments, while Npower batch c beneficiaries who truly worked are not paid.
These instances have made the need for a thorough audit on the Npower program imperative, as we also look into claims of those being owed for up to eight to nine months' Npower payments to ascertain the veracity of their claims. The graduates & non-graduate Npower Batch C1 & C2 are in this category. We want to establish the exact number of Npower batch c beneficiaries owed and the total Npower stipends thereby eliminating ghost Npower batch c beneficiaries.
Preliminary findings of our audit have shown that some consultants are holding on to Npower batch c beneficiaries' funds disbursed to them long ago even when their contract ended in March 2023 without any renewal. We condemn this practice and will not tolerate it going forward. Work is ongoing to identify Npower batch c beneficiaries involved, understand why the payments did not get to the final Npower batch c beneficiaries, and recall the funds to pay those Npower batch c beneficiaries owed.
We appeal to Npower batch c beneficiaries to understand the rationale behind the temporary suspension and investigation of the Npower programme as we work to restore the nation's confidence in the Npower programme and for the new Npower to serve Npower batch c beneficiaries better. Dr. Betta Edu added that a government probe into how the money has been used since the Npower's inception has already kick-started.
According to Npower News, the Minister said that some Npower batch c beneficiaries are not found in their places of primary assignments yet they expect monthly stipends.
Some of the Npower batch c beneficiaries, according to the Minister, should have left Npower since 2022 but are still receiving Npower payment.
According to the Minister “We must go back to look into Npower and understand what the problems are so we will basically suspend Npower for now until we are done with proper investigation into the utilization of fund into the Npower program.
“We want to know how many persons are basically on the Npower program right now, how many persons are owed, amount they are owed. We are totally restructuring Npower and expanding it.
“There are lots going on. We met people who are supposed to have exited the Npower program since last year and they are still on claiming that they are still teaching.
“Sometimes we contact the school or the places where they are working and the Npower batch c beneficiaries are not there. The Npower batch c beneficiaries are not working yet the Npower batch c beneficiaries keep claiming that they are being owed eight or nine months stipends.
“About 80 percent of Npower batch c beneficiaries are not working yet they are claiming salaries.”
Npower was introduced by former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration to combat youth unemployment and promote social development.
