Npower: President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Appoints Mr. Akindele Egbuwalo Program Manager of Npower As National Coordinator Of The National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA)

According to Npower, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Mr. Akindele Egbuwalo, the National Program Manager of Npower as the acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and National Coordinator of the National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA), the agency in charge of Npower.

According to Npower, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had earlier suspended Ms. Halima Shehu as the National Social Investment Programme Agency's Chief Executive Officer and Coordinator over alleged corruption and misappropriation of funds during her tenurship.

Ms. Halima Shehu the former Chief Executive Officer of the National Social Investment Programme Agency, the agency in charge of Npower, had assumed office in October 2023 following her confirmation by the Senate on October 18, 2023.

According to Npower, Mr. Akindele Egbuwalo steps into the position from his previous role as the National Programme Manager of Npower.

Egbuwalo's appointment is seen as an interim measure, pending the outcome of the investigation into the allegations against Ms. Halima Shehu, the ex-ceo of the National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA).

The National Social Investment Programme which includes Npower, is a vital scheme aimed at eradicating poverty and fostering social inclusion across Nigeria and among Nigerian youths.

According to Npower, the appointment of Mr. Akindele Egbuwalo has a background in managing Npower and other social investment programs.

According to Npower, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has suspended Halima Shehu as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and the National Coordinator of the National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA), the agency in charge of Npower.

According to Npower, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu approved the immediate suspension and investigation of Ms Halima Shehu over corruption allegations, while Dr Akindele Egbuwalo the National Programme Manager for Npower was appointed to replace Ms Halima Shehu the former Chief Executive Officer of the National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA), the agency in charge of Npower.

According to Npower, Ms Halima Shehu was appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in October 2023, and her appointment was confirmed by the Senate on 18th October 2023.

Ms Halima Shehu worked as the National Coordinator of the Conditional Cash Transfer Programme, where she used her banking and career expertise to see to the digitalisation of the programme.

Ms Halima Shehu also worked at the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, the ministry in charge of Npower from 2017 to 2022.

According to Npower, Ms Halima Shehu was born in Kafin Dagi village, Katsina, Katsina State, Ms Halima Shehu had her First School Leaving Certificate, and attended the Federal Government College, Kaduna State, for her secondary school education, where she obtained her West African Examination Certificate (WAEC).

The former National Social Investment Programme Agency Chief Executive Officer, joined politics in 2010, during which she was first appointed in 2011 as a Senior Special Assistant to a former governor of Katsina State, Ibrahim Shema. Ms Halima Shehu the former Chief Executive Officer of the National Social Investment Programme Agency, the agency in charge of Npower, also served as a member of the state’s Internal Revenue Board.

According to Npower, in 2016, Ms Halima Shehu was appointed by the Economic Community of West African Countries (ECOWAS) where she temporarily worked as a presidential election observer in Cape Verde.

“Many irregularities which hitherto had sabotaged the smooth implementation of Npower are being addressed. It would be recalled that on assumption of duty, it was noted that many Npower batch c did not receive Npower payment for their monthly allowances while monies were been held up by the consultant managing the enrollment and payment system whose contract had long expired. The good news is that the money has been recovered and it would allow for payment of Npower batch c.”

According to Npower, the National Program Manager, Mr Akindele also noted that these and more were the irregularities, which the Minister in charge of Npower, Dr. Betta Edu was committed to resolving so as to create a good foundation upon which the new Npower will expand to reach 5 million Nigerian youths.

The National Program Manager of Npower, therefore, called on Nigerian youths to be patient as the restructuring was in their best interest and it will lead to expansion of Npower to accommodate millions of Nigerian youths.

The Minister in charge of Npower, Dr. Betta Edu has pledged a renewed vigour in her Ministry's efforts at pulling vulnerable Nigerian youths from the doldrums of scathing poverty in 2024 in line with President Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda's  commitment to eradicate poverty and reduce humanitarian challenges in Nigeria.

The Minister in charge of Npower Dr Betta Edu's pledge was contained in a new year message signed by the minister's Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Rasheed Olanrewaju Zubair.

According to Npower, in a statement titled, ‘The Attack on my Person’ posted via the former Minister in charge of Npower, X handle on Xmas day, Sadiya Umar Farouq, said such unfounded allegations were malicious attacks on her personality and promised to take legal actions.

The former Minister in charge of Npower said she knew nothing about James Okwete, the former Minister in charge of Npower, Sadiya Umar Farouq also said she was proud to have served the country.

According to Npower, the former Minister in charge of Npower, Sadiya Umar Farouq wrote, “There have been a number of reports linking me to a purported investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) into the activities of one James Okwete, someone completely unknown to me. James Okwete neither worked for, nor represented me in any way whatsoever. This linkages and associations to my personality are spurious.

According to Npower, the former Minster in charge of Npower also wrote “While I resist the urge to engage in any media trial whatsoever, I have however contacted my Lawyer to explore possible options to seek redress on the malicious attack on my personality.

The former Minster in charge of Npower also wrote “I remain proud to have served my country as a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria with every sense of responsibility and would defend my actions, stewardship and programmes during my tenure whenever I am called upon to do so.”

This was coming from the former minister in charge of Npower, days after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu directed the immediate payment of the backlog of stipends owed to Npower batch c across the Federation.

Sadiya Umar Farouq was the former Minister in charge of Npower, Npower is a federal government initiative established by the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari to move Nigerian youths from poverty and address youth unemployment across the Federation.

According to Npower, the Minster in charge of Npower, Dr Betta Edu said “I stayed awake with the Npower team till 3 am at the office to ensure Npower batch c receive their Npower payment before Xmas in line with the directive of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

According to Npower, the Minster in charge of Npower further said “Now, I can confirm to you that the payment of Npower batch c has commenced and the evidence is in the bank accounts of Npower batch c.”

Meanwhile, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested a contractor by the name James Okwete in connection with the ongoing probe of ₦37,000,000,000 allegedly laundered by the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development the ministry in charge of Npower.

According to Npower, a top EFCC official, on Sunday, said the contractor had made useful statements concerning Umar-Farouk and former directors-general of the ministry.

The development coincides with the probe of three other ministers, who served under former President Muhammadu Buhari, for graft estimated at ₦150,000,000,000

“It is not only Umar-Farouk the former Minister in charge of Npower, we are investigating. Three other former ministers are also under probe. They were allegedly involved in graft to the tune of ₦150,000,000,000,’’ a credible source in the EFCC said.

According to Npower, sources said Umar-Farouk the former Minister in charge of Npower, and some former agencies’ directors-general under the ministry might be arrested by the anti-graft commission following the details of the financial misappropriation so far revealed to investigators by the contractor.

According to Npower, investigation revealed that the ₦37.1bn was transferred from the Federal Government’s coffers and sent to thirty eight different bank accounts domiciled in five legacy commercial banks belonging to or connected with James Okwete.

Impeccable sources had confirmed to Npower, on Sunday that James Okwete, who is being held at the EFCC Headquarters, Jabi, Abuja, had been cooperating with investigators.

According to Npower, a source said, “The contractor, Mr James Okwete, who was used in laundering the money had been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). He is currently detained in our custody and has been giving investigators more details that have indicted the former Minister in charge of Npower, Sadiya Umar Farouq and some Director Generals under the ministry, and they may be brought to EFCC anytime soon too.”

Npower On Payment Of Nine Months Stipend To Npower Batch C Today Thursday December 28th 2023

3) Some Npower Batch C Stream 1 that worked are yet to receive their Npower payment.
